2026年の2月上旬、Compassion in World のFood Business チームから、Caroline Philtpott-SaundersさんとRubia Soaresさんが来日しました。
約一週間にわたりAWCPのチームとともに、多くの日本企業や生産者に対面やオンラインでミーティングを行いました。CIWFの取り組みを紹介したり、各事業者のアニマルウェルフェアに関する状況や課題などを伺いました。
AWCPは活動の対象を採卵鶏に特化していますが、CIWFは他にも肉用鶏や豚や乳牛、肉牛、養殖魚などあらゆる畜産も対象とし、それぞれ専門のチームを有しています。そのため各事業者からの期待値も大変高い印象でした。また事業者の状況や段階にあわせて対応できる幅広いリソースがあるなど、英国に本部を置く歴史あるアニマルウェルフェア団体の実力を垣間見る機会ともなりました。
AWCPとしては、今後もCIWFチームとの連携や情報の交流を一層強化しながら、日本でのアニマルウェルフェアやケージフリーの進展に努めていきたいと思います。

Welcoming the CIWF Food Business Team to Japan
In early February 2026, Caroline Philpott-Saunders and Rubia Soares from the Food Business team at Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) visited Japan.
For about a week, the CIWF and AWCP team conducted numerous joint in-person and online meetings with Japanese companies and producers. During these sessions, we introduced CIWF’s initiatives and listened to the current status and challenges regarding animal welfare at each business.
While AWCP focuses its activities specifically on laying hens, CIWF covers all types of farm animals—including broiler chickens, pigs, dairy cows, beef cattle, and farmed fish—with specialized teams dedicated to each sector. Because of this broad expertise, we felt that the expectations from the businesses we met with were exceptionally high. It was also a great opportunity to witness the true capabilities of this historic, UK-headquartered animal welfare organization, particularly their extensive resources that can be tailored to the specific circumstances and progress levels of each business.
Moving forward, AWCP is committed to further strengthening our collaboration and information exchange with the CIWF team as we continue our efforts to advance animal welfare and cage-free initiatives in Japan.
